7 Foods to Avoid with Colicky Baby

It is hard enough to have a infant in the house waking up every two hours for a feeding, but it gets a lot harder when the baby is colicky and won’t stop crying. It is not only draining to the mother, it is also frustrating and leaves the mother confused and tired.

Colicky Baby

Colic causes uncontrollable crying of the baby for hours on end for no apparent health reason. This does not mean though that your baby is doing this to test you, no. S/he might be in great distress. A gassy stomach is common in colicky babies and some foods the mother eats only aggravate the situation.

To reduce or prevent the occurrence of colic, you might need to learn the foods to avoid when breastfeeding a colicky baby:

  • Dairy products- milk, cheese, butter, whipped cream
  • Nuts and Grains
  • Caffeine-present in coffee, soft drinks, tea and chocolate
  • Spicy foods, strong smelling foods like garlic and onions
  • Cabbage
  • Green peppers
  • Beans

Basically, stay away from foods that make you gassy.
