30 Day Blogging Challenge – My Blog Name

I promised to do a 30 day blogging challenge a few posts ago and here’s day one post.  The challenge starts off with a post about my blog name.

When I decided  to start this mom blog,  I was a working mom of one trying hard to balance being a career woman,  a good wife and a modern day mom.  It was not easy.  The hardest part was most definitely leaving my toddler in the care of other people and some proved to be a little more insane than others.

Modern Mom Kenya is the name I decided to go with. Apart from bringing up my kids in the moden day world where you have to play different roles, rely on the intenet for the littlest of problems and care about bouncing back to your pre-pregnancy body a little more than you should, I also do not believe in gender  roles. My husband and I have been very careful from day one not to define what either sex is supposed to do around the house. My 5year old told us the other day that my job is to cook delicious chapatis while her father’s job is to clean the house. But that’s where my ‘modern-ness’ ends

I am very traditional when it comes to many aspects of my parenting. I put my career on hold and decided to curve one literally around the kids so I could be their primary care giver.  I am also a notorious extended breastfeeder; I nursed my first one for 2 and a half years and I plan to do the same with the second one. I cannot tell you the number of times people have frowned upon my decision to continue for so long.

I feel like as long as my baby,  husband and I are comfortable with it,  the rest of the world will just have to learn to deal with  it.

We all have different ways of parenting and that’s the beauty of modern parenthood; the fact that you have so much information from every corner on this earth and you get to choose what works for you and your household.

And that freedom is what is what this blog is about.  😄😃
